I particularly resonated with the idea of the “two-minute rule.” It’s such a simple concept but incredibly effective in keeping small tasks from piling up. Thanks for sharing these valuable takeaways!

I have just finished the GTD book and was trying to write an overview of how to put it all together for myself. You did the job nicely. Thank you very much.

Because moms may not be checking their Tickler every day, they want to be sure to note all “tickled” items on their calendars (which they will be checking every day).

I agree with above in terms of weekly review – it really is a great way to judge how much you have accomplished and to schedule other tasks/ activities etc for the coming week. Thanks for the blog!

But what I’ve found for myself and for my time coaching clients is that focusing on having one big weekly review typically becomes overwhelming.

Instead it seems to be more effective to schedule non-negotiable daily reviews at the beginning or end of the day, during the ScheduleMakeover.com process. Having a distinct set of lists that you check and inboxes you process each day diminishes the nagging feeling that you’re not crystal clear on your current top priorities. And it frees up the weekly review to be a simpler high level overview of the upcoming weeks instead of an overwhelming time to catch up on a backlog of processing.

To your brilliance!

I’m doing research for an in-service on staying positive, upbeat and productive after numerous cut backs and lay offs. I will pass this on.

I have extra time this summer (a chapter I was writing for an academic type book, Oxford U. Press, is finally really finished and in press –it ended up taking me a whole year to do it– AND while I am working with doctoral students on their dissertations through the summer, I am not teaching any classes) and I almost feel like I have a fluid, open mind (like water?). The first thing I’m doing is renovating my GTD system, if I spend too much time on methods now, it’s overdue, been a long time since I’ve done that. Words of a GTD coach, Meg, really stuck with me, “You can consider the process of “defining work” as part of your real work system. I think from what I’ve read here and elsewhere, many of us fall off the GTD wagon on occasion, and this is my time to review my whole process. I’m lucky because I love this part of the process.

Thanks for those simple but essential points, it’s a super review of our working system.

Lynn
